Computer Performance International

Recognising the gap in IT communications.

Directors, Chris Brown and Mike Davis formed Computer Performance International (CPI), in 1988. Between them they had 30 years of experience working for mainframe vendor Unisys. Their area of expertise was in Capacity Planning and Benchmarking for Unisys clients worldwide. Chris and Mike recognised the need for IT managers to have impartial advice on Capacity Management and Performance Analysis, which is independent from hardware suppliers.

The approach they have always taken is to present Capacity Management information in homogeneous terms that can be understood by decision makers in senior management, as well as technical specialists. This eliminates the need for time consuming analysis, and the resulting difficulty of communicating the information to all concerned.

Rather than applying the required technical analysis in each individual case, they designed a product that had the expertise built in, enabling people with no in-depth knowledge to undertake Capacity Planning activities.

Harnessing IT for IT reporting

Client List

The resulting product, Resource Guidance Solutions (RGS), makes use of traditional performance metrics from any computer system. However, after this, it departs from traditional methods. The secret of its success lies in its automatic interpretation of this data into capacity, and business terms. This allows the information to be understood both inside and outside of the IT department.

This approach gives major advantages in minimising IT costs. Firstly, it eliminates the need for expensive Capacity Planning and Performance specialists. Secondly, by presenting management with business service levels against used server capacity, it provides the information that they need to make the right decisions to control IT expenditure.

The company prides itself in the level of support it provides. RGS is designed to manage multiple systems from remote locations. This capability is also used for CPI to provide support remotely, meaning that clients can bring CPI’s in-depth expertise to bear immediately, wherever they are in the world. In addition to direct product support, CPI also provides support on Capacity Planning analysis.

Beyond this, upon request, CPI also undertakes specific in-depth studies for specific issues at reasonable cost. These include Server Consolidation, Upgrades, the impact of new applications, disaster backup strategies, as well as any other capacity or performance issues.

With 16 years in the business, CPI has an enviable track record, with many major international companies who have used our products and services to make major cost savings, whilst ensuring they continue to deliver a quality service to the business.
